"My friend and I have a keen interest in the paranormal, both of us are pagans on eclectic paths. I have strong British lineage, she First Nation American and Celtic. Story 1 Whilst visiting my friend I awoke one night because I could feel someone was watching me. I looked round the area in front of me. I could see a figure starting to form, at the same time it seemed to be doing some sort of dance. As it formed into something tangible I discovered it was a woman dressed in a Victorian night gown. This was strange as the property was a 1950s apartment block. The form meant me no harm. I knew that. I won't go into what happened after that because it was something quite intimate. As I lay there mesmerized I began to realize what I was seeing, it was my hostess. This would have alarmed me in other circumstances but I knew she was capable of Astral Projection. After maybe 10 to 15 minutes of this she disappeared. I had to go to the bathroom. I passed by her bedroom, which normally has the door firmly shut, but it was wide open and my hostess was lying on top of her bed in the very outfit I had seen her appear in fast asleep but I could see distinctly that she was smirking. I've never mentioned it to her since as she's subsequently moved and got married. We are still good friends. Story 2a, 2b, 2c These actually happened on my 40th birthday. Over the years I'd been going to Colorado to visit my friend we'd frequently spend a few hours up at the Stanley Hotel, the real Overlook Hotel. 2a The stairwell whilst beautiful is known as "The Vortex" as it's often used by the spirits as a "rapid transport system" to get round the house. I was taking some photographs of my friend for her to send to her now husband on the stairwell leading to the first floor. My auto focus ceased to want to focus on her, blurring the images so you couldn't see anything. I switched to manual and it still wouldn't focus. I changed cameras and it still wouldn't focus. We moved locations and both cameras at the same distance away focused perfectly. 2b Later that evening we decided to have a paranormal hunt as it was gone midnight and being the 23rd October close enough to Samhain that the veil might be thin enough to experience things. The most notable thing that happened was in the famous Flora's Music room labelled when you visit as the concert hall. We were inspecting the piano which Flora is known to play occasionally. First I started humming a tune, then my friend did. When we walked out into the main foyer we were in sync humming, until we realized that the tune we were humming was a piano piece that was playing in the reception area of the foyer. We wouldn't have been able to hear it from the concert hall as it's very well sound proofed. When I asked my companion why did she start humming she responded with the same reason I had started humming. "I heard the piano playing it" 2c Not so much a ghost story, but an interesting thing that would indicate in our view that the hotel has a long history of the paranormal. Around The Stanley there are photos of groups from periods from it's founding to the 1960s we are more than sure we spotted the same man in more than 4 of them, looking exactly the same! Story 3
There is a famous road, Riverdale Road, in Brighton a small town on the outskirts of Denver that claims to be one of the most haunted roads in America. There are at least 8 things on that road that come under the paranormal spectrum. I've witnessed one, in close proximity. There is on one part of the road a jogger's residual spirit that jogs past your car if you are parked up and is known to tap a car door. It's not known when the incident that took their life occurred but the story was I believe first raised in the 70s. In my opinion that assumption would be right as not only was I in the car and heard them tap the car, when I looked out I saw a man in a brown running suit that dated in my opinion from the late 70s. You may recall seeing them in media usually with what I call go faster stripes on the arms and legs. This particular one had yellow ones. Story 4 If you take a certain road out of the South Platte river basin by day, it is probably some of the most beautiful foliage and views that Colorado has to offer. However if the same road is taken between 10 pm and 2 am (I've visited in-between those times myself twice) It is dead, the trees are bare, the temperature has dropped to just above freezing even though it was May I visited both times. and you can't see any of the views that you would have expected to see during the day time. Also there are elementals visible and some free running spirits, of whom or what I have no clue because they go in and out of your vision quickly."-Anon

This next story came to me and I felt that it was one of those that are important for all of us to read. It is true what they say, that our loved ones never really leave us....
"My parents and I moved out of my childhood home when I was 15 in 1993, but my sisters and their families still live in the town, so we go down there often. My dad later died on my birthday in 2011, and I also found out that I was pregnant with my son on the same day! Best worst birthday ever! Last year, I was visiting one of our old neighbors and when I was leaving, I met the current owner of my house. We chit chatted for a few and he said, "did I ever hear the cans shaking?" WTF? Now, back when I was a kid, we had a ton of racoons that wrecked havoc on our trashcans, which obviously happened at night, so I kind of assumed that he had meant that, but I asked what he meant. He said that in his kids playroom, which was my dad's TV room, everyone can hear a shaking can and a dog bark at 7pm. Every night, right before "Jeopardy," my dad would shake a can of peanuts and the dog would come running, barking like a nut. I was shook. I'm not a big fan of those paranormal reality shows, but that's pretty specific. The dog basically hated everyone, unless they had his favorite people treat, which were unsalted peanuts. It actually gets a bit weirder. We had an inground pool, which had been long removed and filled in by the owner whom he bought the house from. The current owner's dog runs around as if there is still a pool and it reeks of old people cigarettes. The pool thing is not that weird, since pets can probably smell decades of chemicals, but the old people cigarette thing was specific. My dad and his buddies all smoked unfiltered Chesterfields, Pall Malls, and Viceroys; they have a distinct odor. We also never had a deck or awning that could've trapped any odors. It's wide open back there! I could honestly believe that my dad is micromanaging this man whilst doing his yardwork from the great beyond. Another fun fact: my childhood home was also the childhood home of one Eugene Orowitz. You would know him as the late TV star, Michael Landon." -Nichole "Back in 2018, I was lucky enough to be chosen as the guest of honor at Wyvacon down in Wytheville Virginia. On my first night down there, I attended a pre-con event called game night. I stuck around until about 10 – 10:30, at which point I decided to head back to the hotel. Leaving the game night, the town itself was quiet. Wytheville feels rural, but it really isn’t. The town itself is well lit at night, with plenty of streetlights. At the same time, it’s rural enough that I had to drive slow because lots of animals were running out into the street as I drove. In the space of a couple blocks, I saw cats, a deer, a raccoon, and I think a fox too (or a small dog). The night itself was clear so, between the streetlights and my truck’s headlights, everything was easily identifiable. That is until I stopped at a red light only to watch something walk in front of my truck that I couldn’t identify. It took a few moments for it to sink in, but as it passed I realized I was looking at a set of legs that seemed to disappear from the knees up. They were white and appeared semi-translucent, almost as if they were made of heavy smoke, so it was hard to tell if they were naked or clothed. All I could tell was that they were two human-like legs walking past me. I watched as it crossed from left to right across the street then disappeared in the grass at the curb. I turned my head to follow thinking “wouldn’t it be funny if I was right next to a graveyard?” and, sure enough, I was right next to a graveyard (Unfortunately, I’m not sure which one. I didn’t make note of the street I was on at the time and apparently Wytheville has a lot of cemeteries). Anyway, at that point, the light turned green. I debated for a moment finding a place to park, but it was a strange town and I didn’t see a shoulder on the road, so I continued on to my hotel. Was a cool encounter, definitely caught me by surprise. Not frightening at all, just weird ... and a pretty unforgettable way to start the convention." -Rick Gualtieri
Halloween, one of the spookiest nights of the year. Especially when you are a child, goblins hiding around every corner, dead bodies that come to life, ghosts flying in the night sky. What if as you go about your night, on edge of what you might run into, you look into the sky and see something that doesn't make sense.....
"Suamico WI Halloween 1971 or 1972. I was 5ish years old. I had just got my costume on to go trick or treating. I was a witch, with the old plastic face mask, the nylon outfit that fit over my winter coat. Mom and dad has Sonny and Cher on tv and mom wanted to take my picture. So, I walk over by the TV, and above the tv was a south facing window. It was a full moon or close to it. I am looking out the window and I see two cigar shaped objects fly in front of the moon. I am a little kid and was completely baffled, but I knew enough about airplanes to know they are not solidly lighted up, that they would not be flying that close together and you can not see them against the moon at night. Not my first UFO encounter, but the one that sticks in my mind in vivid detail yet. I am 54 now." -Laura M "His name was David. At least that’s what we came to call him based off of what we were told by a Ouija board…I know. I’ve never believed them either, but one time we were “communicating” with our friendly ghost and I told my mom I didn’t believe her. She told me to ask a question in my head. So I did. The planchette spelled out two letters and stopped. T.B. or otherwise known as tuberculosis. My mom looked up and asked me, “Did you just ask how he died?” So, from that point on, skepticism aside, our guest was named David.
A little background about where we lived. Our house was built in the 40’s and only had one other family live in it before us. Nothing tragic happened. No one was murdered. But the more intriguing piece is the city we lived in. Struthers, Ohio. A small blue collar town just outside of Youngstown. Steel mills and grit kept the city alive. A bunch of hardworking neighborly people kept the city’s heart beating. Idyllic by nature. There was no better place to grow up. But looking back on the history of Struthers, it does have one major claim to fame – Struthers, Ohio is the only city in America without a cemetery. I know this is true because I live there. Others know this is true because it was a Jeopardy question. One theory why we didn’t have cemeteries was that Struthers was a sprawling rural area. Back then they buried the deceased on their land. For as long as I can remember, whenever anyone was planning an addition or putting in a pool, they were always afraid they would accidentally dig up a body. This always made me think of Poltergeist. But, as far as I know, no one ever dug up a body. But according to the $14.99 Ouija board, there was a body buried under the cherry tree in our neighbors yard. Needless to say we never explored that area too often. Things would randomly happen. A few before I could really remember. One time, my sister woke up screaming. She said that there was a head talking to her inside her dollhouse. Strange, but could be chalked up to a very vivid dream. My mother would always see a dark shadow either looming just outside her bedroom, or at the foot of the bed. Sometimes it would sit on the bed. She’d feel the bed depress and it seemed like there would be an unseen weight. Grogginess and household pets might explain that one, but my mom was always very close to the spiritual side. Maybe even a little clairvoyant. One big incident that stands out what happened to my father. My dad, a firm non-believer in ghosts came home late one night and had to be up early for work. Instead of waking everyone up, he decided to sleep on the couch in the living room. Very considerate…unless you were a playful ghost boy who’s living room relax time was interrupted. As my dad slept, someone threw a baseball glove very forcefully directly at his face, waking him up with a surprised scream and, of course, waking up the rest of the family he so considerately tried not to disturb. He wanted to know which of us did it, but as we stared bleary-eyed at him, he came to his own conclusions…it was David. Things would always happen. Lights would turn on and off by themselves. You’d hear footsteps walking or running up the basement steps. And sometimes just talking in the basement…ohhhh the basement. Basements are creepy by nature. Ours wasn’t anything scary. A run of the mill basement with a washer and dryer. A gas heater and my dad’s workshop and den. As a kid, there was always an ominous feel to the basement. Something warding us to stay out. So we only made trips down there as necessary, or to bother my dad as he worked on his projects. Of course our Commodore 64 was down there, so sometimes we’d bite the bullet and go play that. A good distraction from what felt like someone was watching. One time my dad was working on a project. He was concentrating at the job in hand and saw my mom walk down and stand behind him. He talked to her for a few moments and then she walked into the laundry room. He thought it was odd that she didn’t say anything back to him, but chalked it up to her day and having to wrangle three kids. About 20 minutes later my mom came down stairs carrying a basket of laundry. My dad asked if she forgot to bring that down last time she came down. She told him that she just got home. Whoever came down and had a very one-sided conversation with my dad, was most definitely not my mom. Moving on to my own experiences is always fun. These are stories I get to tell not so often, but remember them as clear as day. The first experience happened when I was 8. My cousin was spending the night. He was older, right around sister’s age, so teenaged. I was in bed. I could hear the older kids up laughing at a comedy show they were watching on the very posh and dignified HBO in the living room. I had my eyes closed as I was drifting off to sleep, still a little jealous that I was abandoned because of my age. I shared a room with my brother and we had twin beds. His was closer to the door and mine was on the opposite side. There was a space in between the beds where my cousin made his floor camp. I heard something moving next to me on the floor. Just some movement which could have been anything. Then I started to hear the paper grocery bag my cousin brought his clothes over and it started to tear. I opened my eyes and saw a shadow sitting on the floor by the bag. My first thought was that it was my cousin not wanting to wake me up and rummaging through his bag for a toothbrush. But what happened next verified that it was not my cousin. A child’s voice, maybe my age greeted me. “Hi. Do you want to play?” I still get chills thinking of that voice. Not malevolent. Not scary. Just not normal. I quickly threw the covers off and ran into the safety of the glow of a tube television and living, non-disembodied voices. I told everyone what happened and we all went back into the bedroom and turned on the lights. Nothing. No one. The only sign that was there was a torn grocery bag on the floor. The good part is, I got to stay up and watch HBO. The next experience I had happened a little later in life. Things we quiet for a while. Not much activity. I was probably in seventh or eighth grade. The world of the supernatural was replaced by a new fondness for music and other preteen interests (I still watched cartoons and played G.I. Joes and Ninja Turtles, but that’s our secret.) It was summertime, a few days before the Fourth of July. My friend Annie was over, we pretty much are up together. She lived a few houses over on the next street. It was nighttime and we were jumping on my trampoline in my very dark backyard. The only light was from windows and a large halogen light a few houses down. We were both sitting talking about normal preteen things, like who stacey had a crush on, what it was going to be like in a few years when we were in high school or the last episode of Fresh Prince. From the neighbors yard, I heard someone calling my name. “Tony!” Both of us looked over and saw a shadow of a young person being backlit by the halogen light. “Tony! Do you want to come play?” I thought it was one of the neighbors' grandkids. His son was home from North Carolina for the Fourth. He always brought home fireworks for us when he came in town because at the time they were illegal in Ohio. He usually brought with him his siblings and their children. I thought at the time this was one of them. “Tony!” “Yeah…” I responded. “Come over and play!” I looked at Annie and asked “Do you want to go over? They might have fireworks.” She agreed. We both looked back three seconds later, and no one was there. Nothing. It wasn’t enough time for someone to find a hiding space and run off. They just vanished. Right where the cherry tree was. This time I had a witness. Years later, Annie would tell this story at work. No one believed her. Skeptics. One of her coworkers at the time, was my future wife. I didn’t know her when Annie told this story all these years later. But my wife asked me if I knew Annie and I told her that we grew up together. She then asked me about if the story she would tell about a ghost kid was real. I told her the exact same story Annie had told her coworkers and I’m telling you now. From then on, she at least had one person at work who believed her." Tony Marr Could Guardian spirits exist? Are there spirits or beings that watch over us? If there were such a thing as elementals, could they do the same?
"Back in 03 I had a friend I had met through his wife who through a series of mistakes managed to get herself put in prison. I was visiting this friend one day and we were having a beer and he started telling his thoughts about his house being haunted. We were sitting in his kitchen where he had strung up white Christmas lights across the ceiling and as we talked I started to notice movement across the ceiling. Now these weren’t blinking lights and as I turned my head to look directly I saw what I can only describe as something akin to heat waves you would see in the distance on an extremely hot day. Only this was moving around the ceiling as the temp noticeably dropped. I chose not to say anything and was there maybe another hour. When I left he walked out to my truck as we chatted. Now I am a habitual wiseass and as after I got in the truck and we shook hands I waved at the house and raised my voice asking for some cover because my inspection sticker was out. We both laughed and I left. As I drove maybe a block I drove into a thick fog which really wasn’t that unusual at that time of year but strangely was gone in a quarter mile. The next my friend called me and asked me to come by because he had something he needed to show me. I head back and he explained that he had a series of cameras covering the outside of house and one of them caught something. His camera that covered the front of his house and driveway was set on top with a view of his chimney to the left. He hit play and it was of us talking as I had left the night before. I could see us shake hands and laugh about I said and then I back out and drive right off camera as I started to drive a thick column of white smoke poured from the chimney at a hard right angle for maybe a minute......I cursed out loud and ran to his living room and looked at his fireplace which to my utter shock was one of those with a capped off gas line......not a wood burning fireplace......hands down the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen." - Chris -Are you familiar with the vanishing hitch-hiker? Or Phantom passengers? What would YOU do if you heard a voice within your car from a passenger that wasn't there?
"When I was a kid my parents brought me to church every weekend, even though I have never really been a believer. By the time I was a teen and had bought my first car, I was allowed to stop attending with my family. Coincidentally, the road I had to take to visit my high school boyfriend went right past my family's small church, where it sat on a corner with a stoplight. My dad, hesitant to let me go completely to the dark side, bought me a dangly little air freshener for my mirror that said, "Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly." One day when I was 17 while I was driving along this road I'd ridden and driven along hundreds of times, I reached that corner, and was looking at the little Church when the light turned yellow right at that perfect distance where you could gun it and make the light, or slam on your brakes and stop. My brain deliberated for a moment, taking into account that the roads so far had been completely empty and there was no one else around. Right as I'd decided to just go for it, I heard a voice in my backseat as clear as if a person were sitting there say forcefully, "NO. STOP." It scared me so bad I instinctively slammed on my brakes. Just as the little angel air freshener swung forward and smacked against my windshield, a huge Ford 2-ton truck ran his red light and crossed right in front of me. I was in a tiny Hyundai hatchback. If I had gone for that yellow light, it would have t-boned me right in the driver's side door. I sat there in my empty car, waiting for the light to change, staring at my little childhood church. This one incident kept me agnostic for another decade." -Mikayla W. Welcome, please go ahead and close the door behind you. We don't want anyone else to hear our conversation. Take a seat, would you like a cup of coffee? Okay lets begin.
The world that we live in is unfathomable if we even truly knew a quarter of what is really out there, it would blow our minds. I decided to make a special file for the stories that come across my desk. Stories that fill the mind with wonder and make you question your reality and it is here, that I plan on sharing them with you. So lets get to it Case #1 The Carousel: "There was a ghost of a little girl in my childhood home. I think her name was Joanne, but I don't know why I think that. She was probably around 7 or 8, with curly blonde hair and an old corduroy dress. She liked a carousel toy I had in my room, and my porcelain dolls. I always turned my carousel so that my favorite horse was in the front, and I would often come in to find a different horse visible. My dolls also turned to face different directions while I was sleeping. I saw her often as movement in the corner of my eye, or a shadow passing across a window at the height of a child. I saw her clearly as a full apparition only once. She was sitting on my bedroom floor and crying. There was also something else in that house. There was a long hallway in the basement leading to my bedroom, and the only light switch was at the opposite end. So to go to bed I had to turn off the hall light then walk in darkness about 30 feet to my room. Many nights I heard footsteps just behind mine, but on the ceiling. Not upstairs, but directly over my head. There was a strange hole in the laundry room floor, back in a corner, with no purpose we knew of. Sometimes I dreamed of being pulled out of my bed by a huge black mass and dragged into that hole. I found out years after moving that my siblings had the same dream for as long as they lived in that house, even after I left. I never saw this thing, but I knew it was malevolent somehow. Big bad vibes. When my parents sold the house and I went back to get what remained of my things from my childhood room, I stood in the middle of my bedroom holding my carousel, and told the little girl that if she didn't want to stay here with the other entity, she and only she was welcome to attach herself to my carousel, and come with me. I waited for about 20 minutes, then left. That carousel stayed in storage in an unattached garage for years, and I kind of forgot all about it. Eventually I decided to clean out the space and throw away things I didn't want anymore, and I found my old childhood carousel. I brought it in, hoping my (then very young) daughter would like it. That night things in my apartment started disappearing. I started seeing movement in the corner of my eye, shadows the size of a child but much bigger than my then toddler. I realized Joanne had taken me up on my offer, and I had accidentally left her in my garage for years. Eventually I bought an old porcelain doll like the ones I'd had as a kid, apologized to her for leaving her outside, and asked her to stop moving my things. Things calmed down after that, though I still sometimes see a figure, now much smaller than my teenaged daughter, out of the corner of my eye. I make a point to keep my carousel in the house now. Every time I move it's one of the first things I bring inside. I've never felt anything like whatever that other thing was since." - -Mikayla W. |
